The Bringhurst's

My Amazing Kids

Julienne (15)  My mom has said many times that she's exactly like me, and she is an awful lot like me.  She has a lot of the same weaknesses that I struggled with as a kid and all of my strengths.  I have learned that in order to be a good mom to her, I have to learn to love myself.  So, through raising her I have come to appreciate myself more.  What an amazing gift that is!  But while she's an awful lot like me, she is still her own unique person, who surprises me all the time with her incredible kindness and love towards everybody around her.

Maggie (13)  She, on the other hand, is an awful lot like her dad.  So because of her I have learned to appreciate his strengths even more than I did before.   All of our kids have blessed and strengthened our marriage, but Maggie most of all.  She is the leader when her dad's not around.  She gets everyone motivated.  If I put her in charge of getting the house clean I can rest assured that she will have everyone working on their assignments and have it done quicker than if I had been the one making assignments.  She has also stayed up late at night helping her siblings with their homework or other projects.

Emma (10)  I call her my creative genius.  Her bedroom is a disaster, and her chores are hardly ever done, but she is never lazy.  She's always busy working on something creative.  Papers, markers, scissors, and glue are her favorite tools.  Other people have commented on her kindness and generosity.  At school she befriends everyone and generously gives out compliments, never expecting any in return.  She is loving, talented, creative, and very intelligent.  She was doing 2nd grade math before she started kindergarten, just for fun.

Gavin (7)  For a long time he was my only boy, and therefore, often the center of attention.  He loves having sisters.  He marches to the beat of his own drum, preferring to do things his own way and in his own time.  He is very easygoing and nearly always happy.  I didn't know it was possible to laugh in your sleep, until I saw him doing it, and he does it a lot.  When he is unhappy it never lasts for very long.  He makes everyone around him happy with his contagious smile.  He likes to have a clean room, loves doing his homework, and thinks the world revolves around trains and cars.

Camille  (3)  She likes to be known as Camille “the deal”.  This is a nickname that Jason came up with before she was born, but now she likes to refer to herself this way.  Once when she was feeling grumpy Jason asked, “Are you having a rough day, Camille?”  She replied, “It's Camille 'the deal,' Daddy!”  She likes to be in charge and calling the shots, even at age three.  She reminds me a lot of her older sister, Maggie, but I'm sure she will have her own unique personality, as they all do.

Xavier (almost 1)   He is our latest and last addition, born in February 2012.  He was born 12 weeks early and had a lot of complications as a result.  He spent his first 4 months of life at Primary Children's Medical Center.  The nurses there often commented on how “strong” he was.  Even as a tiny preemie he often made their job difficult by refusing to hold still for a procedure.  They were referring to his physical strength, but I can see a lot of inner strength in him as well.  He had to have a special feeding tube placed before he could come home because he wasn't eating well on his own.  One of the therapists at the hospital said he could need the tube up to a year, another said 3 to 6 months.  It turned out to be less than 2 months.  They just didn't realize how strong he was!
All of my kids have taught me valuable lessons and I continue to learn from them everyday.

Alisa Shosted

Alisa is just one of the neatest people in this world! I have a feeling there are going to be quite a few people who agree with me on this! It's going to be difficult for me to put into words what makes her special. It's in her eyes. Alisa strives to be better every day and in doing so she naturally betters the people around her. She is very self aware. I really believe that she has a great sense for people and genuinely wants to understand the people around her. Enough with the mushy/deep stuff. She is also HOT, has one spicy, beautiful little girl, and is SOOOOOO funny! Love ya :)

Ryder Lee Ollerton

I don't think either one of us was prepared for the pride and incredible love we would have for Ryder! We both just know this is a special kid! He is 1 year 4 months. He hasn't been a "baby" for a while now. Just such a boy! He loves riding in the Rhino, the 4-wheeler, and lawnmower. When all is parked you'll find him crawling all over them! He is already excited about the snowmobiles that are starting to make their way out. He LOVES to be outside, rain or shine! Is it normal to think your child is a genius already? He mans his way around the i-pad better than we do! We laugh every day over stuff he is saying or doing. He clearly loves to make people laugh! Anyone who meets him and is able to get through his initial stare down, walks away just adoring him! It probably helps that he has amazing hair and eyelashes! He is a good example to us every morning. He wakes up with just a big smile on his face!

We love you Ryder!

Phaedra Parker

This woman is an inspiration to me for many reasons but one that stands out indefinitely is her willingness to help anyone out at anytime! She is definitely the worlds greatest Step Mom! (Besides me of course :D) I don't think many people these days would do anything in there power to pull a fundraiser together to help single mothers have good Christmas's! She is always there when I need to vent about stupid things and she always gives the best advice she can!! She has been through a lot in life and she has learned a lot too! I see her as a very wise woman. She even took on a lot marrying a man that had 3 kids and god knows how many grandchildren! Even though she wasn't ready to be a Grandma! She is the very best Bnana any kid could ask for! And we love her very much!! Thank you for all that you do Nana!!!

Christine Humphreys

As time continually progresses, the more I realize how much my mom taught me. I find myself recalling so often things that she would say to me. I treasure the things that she taught me. I treasure the advise that I received. Imparting her words and knowledge keeps her alive.

She taught me things that to this day make me laugh: I remember one time I went to Wal-Mart with her and we decided to get a donut before shopping. We ate them and my mom said, "Ya know, I think the least that Wal-Mart owes me is a donut for me doing my shopping here." I couldn't agree more. And to this day I don't feel any guilt when I enjoy myself a donut at the store.

My mom had common sense: She always said, "Money is meant to be spent and cars are meant to be driven" Thus why I don't always feel guilty when I spend money or drive far too much.

In going through her trials and sickness she said. "I think I knew what I was in for in the pre-earth life and what was to come and the trials I would face and I accepted them to be able to have the change to be with my children."

My mom understood the gospel in every way. She understood that she was foreordained to be my mom and to be an example in this life and to go through the trials that she had to endure. She went through this life with dignity and grace and style. She embraced those around her who were rarely embraced by others. She loved her husband in a way that he will never be the same while he is away from her. She raised her children in a way that for the rest of our days we will cherish her and call her blessed.

I love you, Mom. Beyond these words.

Casey
